This directory combines documented camera records and intentionally public operator viewers. It is a bounded catalog, not a census of every camera in Manhattan.
Camera purpose is taken from source descriptions. Unspecified purposes remain unclassified. Publicly documented hardware and publicly viewable imagery are different things.
Mapped locations and public viewer groups use different counting units and can overlap. A viewer group may contain several camera views. The catalog total is a count of entries, not a count of individual physical cameras.
Position accuracy and source dates vary. OpenStreetMap dates describe map edits. Viewer-page checks do not verify live playback. Neither establishes that a camera is operating today. The map makes no claims about a camera’s viewing direction, recognition capability, ownership beyond the source, or access to private recordings.
